Learning doesn’t end in the classroom, and hanging out with your kids can be both fun and educational. A great family outing is essential for creating long-lasting memories that the whole family will treasure forever. Also, the things you do with your kids when they are very young can influence the choices they make when they are much older.

So if you’re in Lagos as a visitor, or a Lagosian who’s looking for more things to do with kids, here are a few ideas to strengthen those family bonds.

See Wildlife at Omu Resort

Nat Geo Wild shouldn’t be your kid’s only exposure to animals. Omu Resort is a great place for a family outing. The resort is home to lions, hyenas and ostriches. The play area is a great place to spend the day. The kiddos will love splashing around in the pool and the water park. The rides are also fun for older children. Love picnics? Then pack a basket! Take a camera with you and document the experience.

This museum is one of the oldest in Nigeria. You should go here for the artefacts and displays. The tickets are cheap and the guided tours are insightful. The two exhibitions in the museum showcase Nigeria’s exciting mix of cultures and her political history since independence. Done with your museum tour? The museum grounds are beautiful enough for a picnic, so you should absolutely bring some snacks. There’s a mall next door if you’d prefer fast food.

Get a Taste of Nigerian Art at Nike Art Gallery

This is a great place to spend the weekend with your family, especially if weekdays are usually too packed for an adventure. Nike Art gallery is open 7 days a week. The guided tours in this gallery helps you get acquainted with the collections in this art haven. The tours here are free! There are impressive sculptures, paintings, antiques and woodwork, and they are mostly made by Nigerian artists. A visit could be just the inspiration your artistic kids need.

Terra Kulture is a Cultural Hub!

Take your kids to Terra Kulture and enjoy Lagos culture like never before. Treat your family to mouth-watering African delicacies, a well-stocked bookshop and an amazing art gallery. Find out when the centre will host the next play and introduce your family to the beauty of Nigerian theatre.

The Muson Centre is The Broadway of Nigeria

Home to popular plays and musicals, The Muson Centre is the place for an entertaining family outing. The shows here are electrifying and will not be forgotten for years.

Enjoy the Outdoors at the Lekki Conservation Centre

Not only will your kids enjoy seeing the crocodiles and other animals, but the guides will eagerly regale you with tales of how a swampland was transformed into the Lagos of today. Tip: dress for hiking (sneakers and shorts, don’t forget the insect repellent!) and bring your own refreshments.

Family outings will strengthen the bond between you and your kids. Lagos is full of places and activities you and the kids will enjoy. Whether you are looking to establish new family traditions or just a weekend hangout with your family, the places mentioned above are open all year round.
